Organisers of this year’s Over The Rainbow Ball, which takes place at the Riviera International Centre on Saturday 28th November, are promising an outrageous entertainment extravaganza on a scale never witnessed in the south west before.
The charity ball, which is now in its nine year, has a Wonderland theme and will transport revellers down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass into a world where nothing is quite as it seems.
The event, which is raising money for sexual health charity the Eddystone Trust, will feature an incredible cabaret line-up including award-winning drag acts, Britain’s Got Talent finalist, top international tribute artists and Alice in Wonderland circus acts direct from this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Calmer Kalma, one of the UK’s leading entertainment troupes will be providing Alice in Wonderland-themed entertainment throughout the evening. The eye-popping antics will include a stripping Mad Hatter, a smoking caterpillar, a rabbit and queen on stilts, a tea cup juggling March Hare, acrobatic playing cards and a burlesque drag Alice, as well as a whole other world of themed craziness.
Organisers are also delighted to welcome Damon Scott, who was runner up to Paul Potts in the first series of Britain’s Got Talent, beating off 50,000 other applicants. Although Damon has an extensive range of acts, he is best known for his performance with monkey puppets including his hysterical Michael Jackson’s routine featuring Bubbles, who is guaranteed to cause primate pandemonium at the ball.
The drag entertainment this year comes courtesy of Tina C, a naively self-absorbed music star from Tennessee, created by award-winning comedian Chris Green. Stephen Fry described Tina as “one of the great comic creations of the age” while Sir Ian McKellan said, “Tina is one of my favourite performers. She is witty, often outrageous and always in tune.” This is one of her only UK performances this year.
Other entertainment on the evening will include local singer Bradley, the Bunny Boys and the huge charity auction, which this year has some quite unbelievable action lots up for grabs. The night will come to a suitable climax with the UK’s leading Cher tribute act, singing hits including Believe, Strong Enough, Turn Back Time, I Got You Babe and Gipsies, Tramps and Thieves. The party will then continue into the early hours with top DJ entertainment.
Will Ford, the chairman of the Over The Rainbow Ball Committee said: “We really wanted to go all out on the entertainment front to create the most outrageous night out of the year. By doubling the entertainment budget and completely theming the venue, we know we are going to give this event a new lease of life and genuinely blow people away.
“Although this is an LGBT event, it is most certainly open to friends, family members and absolutely everyone open-minded who knows how to party with the best of us, while raising money for a brilliant local charity. This will be a sell out, so grabs your tickets now and don’t miss the party of the year.”
