Support Equality And Win A Luxury Weekend For Two In Paris!

Stonewall’s annual 10k Equality Walk takes place on Bank Holiday Sunday 6 May starting at Brighton’s Pavilion Gardens. Walkers can join celebrity hosts Jane Hazlegrove (Casualty and Stonewall Entertainer of the Year 2011) and Harry Derbidge (The Only Way is Essex) for the fun-filled day out. And on the day the top fundraiser will in a luxury weekend in Paris.

This year’s Stonewall Brighton Equality Walk builds on the success of the 2011 Walk which attracted over 500 people. Supported by American Express and media partners Square Peg Media (publishers of g3 and Out in the City), the ninth annual Walk is in aid of Stonewall’s Education for All programme.

Registration for the Walk costs just £10, and all walkers will receive a goodie bag and special edition t-shirt, and can enjoy entertainment throughout the day. Participants simply need to raise more than the registration fee – and there are prizes for the top fundraising individual and groups. The Equality Walk winds through the heart of Brighton, showing off the Laines and the seafront.

Stonewall encourages all walkers to fundraise as soon as they register. This year there’s a fantastic top fundraising prize – a luxury weekend for two in Paris including travel on Eurostar, two nights’ stay in a luxury hotel and spending money.

Research shows that nine in ten secondary school teachers say children and young people currently experience anti-gay bullying in their schools – regardless of their sexual orientation. Three quarters of primary school teachers hear ‘that’s so gay’ or ‘you’re so gay’ in school. Yet nine in ten teachers report that they have never received any specific training on how to tackle this behaviour.

Catherine Bosworth, Stonewall Director of Fundraising, said: ‘The Brighton Equality Walk has always been a key event in Stonewall’s fundraising calendar. This year we’re continuing our focus on education, and helping make schools a safe and supportive environment for all children.’

Clare Fuller, Vice President at American Express and Executive sponsor of the UK Pride network, said: ‘Our involvement in the Brighton Equality Walk is important to American Express, not only as one of the largest employers in the region, but also as an employer that is wholly committed to developing and supporting a diverse workforce. We are delighted to be able to lend our support to this great event once again.’
