Sunderland Pride Plans Well Underway

Plans are well underway for Sunderland’s first LGBT Pride celebrations, which are now just three weeks away, on Sunday 25th September. Upwards of 3000 people are expected to flock to the city centre to see Sunderland history being made.

The event will be launched by the Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Norma Wright as she commences the Pride march at 12pm from the Civic Centre. Once the march comes to an end in Park Lane at 1PM the entertainment begins on the main stage while visitors can also visit the information and commercial stalls located around Park Lane.

The event comes after two years of hard from the Sunderland Pride committee which consists of LGBT figures from the city. David Scoon, Chairman of the Sunderland Pride committee, said ‘the fact that we are now less than three weeks away from the event is brilliant. After two years we can all finally say Sunderland Pride is almost here!’

He went onto say ‘I hope that the visitors to the event thoroughly enjoy their day, through the hard work of the committee we have some fantastic acts that can be enjoyed by all.’

Acts already confirmed include locals Envy, Missing Linx and I’m So P!nk. Beauty, a regular Pride solo act from Liverpool. Other acts include Pride favourites Bears Aloud, who will be performing their tribute to Girls Aloud and Beauty, a regular solo performer at Pride events throughout the country from Liverpool. Headlining the event this year will be Scooch with their performance of the hit TV series Glee.
