Last Saturday more than 1000 people from all parts of the community enjoyed the second Cornwall Pride event. An enormous rainbow flag was the highlight of the parade through Truro city centre, leading revellers to Victoria Gardens where a relaxed village-fête feel continued all afternoon with stalls, entertainment and live music for the whole family.
Gay and human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, who led the parade, said: ‘We’re celebrating the principles of equality, freedom and human rights. It’s a great party, but there’s a great message as well.’
At the evening marquee event on Lemon Quay, Hazell Dean, Rozalla, Andy Scott Lee and many other live acts entertained the crowd.
Christian Diamant, chair of Cornwall Pride said: ‘Our hard work towards this year’s Pride event has paid off, and it has been an amazing day. The support we have had from individuals, organisations and businesses has been incredible; we couldn’t have managed without the support of the whole community.
‘Cornwall Pride 2009 will be a tough act to follow, but we are determined to make it even better in 2010.’
