Stoke Pride 2010

This year Staffordshire’s biggest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans event turns five and it’s truly come of age! From humble beginnings on a rainy car park in July 2006, with only a few thousand attendees and a stage on the back of a truck, Stoke Pride has quickly grown into one of the city’s biggest and most vibrant community festivals.

On Saturday August the 14th Stoke Pride will once again put Stoke firmly on the map as the Pride of choice for thousands of people from across the U.K. …. and there’s good reason! Stoke Pride is a friendlier, better value alternative to the costly, impersonal experiences of the mega-Prides in Manchester, Brighton and London and our new home at Northwood Park really does showcase Stoke-on-Trent at it’s most beautiful.

From 2pm visitors can soak up the sunshine and atmosphere as street performers, dancers and artists mix and mingle with the partying crowds. There’ll be two stages, food, drink, face painting for the kids, a community village and places to chill out until 9pm when the party moves to the Official Stoke Pride After Party just up the road at The Club.

Once again there is a star studded lineup of local and national acts, including Stoke Pride favourites Sandra, Diane James and Cassie performing live on the GayLife North Staffordshire Main stage.

We’ll also be paying tribute to some of the biggest names in show business with Melissa Totten as Madonna, Caroline Lowe as Amy Winehouse, the Boy George Experience and closing the show with some bad romance will be Charlotte Hopley as Lady GaGa! Joining them are the sensational Wilma Fingerdoo and Stoke-on-Trent’s very own drag divas from The Club including, for her Stoke Pride Premier, the spellbinding Madame Farracina.

The Community stage, one of the biggest successes of 2009, will again bring together a diverse range of local artists and performers. The hand-picked selection includes the locally renowned band Phoenix, community favourites Jade Wilkinson, Hollie Lucas and Steven Ayres and returning for 2010 are the Tribal Belly dancers, the amazing PoleFit ladies and DJ Bouncy Ben!

As ever, entry to the festival and its beautiful surroundings is absolutely FREE. Drink and food prices are some of the most competitive in the Midlands, and afterwards you can get yourself into the official after-parties, and clubs, all for well under a tenner.

The event is attitude free and open to everyone who’d like to join Staffordshire’s rich Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Tran’s community, their friends and supporters in celebrating the valuable contribution that this wonderful community makes to our city. Of course, the renowned friendliness that Stokies are famous for, means making new friends is easy!

One of the event organisers, Aaron Cogle said “It is the most successful Pride of its type in the region. The recognition and economic benefit that it brings to Stoke every year has other cities of comparable size green with envy. It’s something of which Stoke can be very proud.”

Andy Murphy the Network Coordinator commented “Stoke Pride is open to everyone and it brings together people from all over Staffordshire and wider! This event leads the way in the social and economic regeneration of our city and provides a platform from which local businesses and services can reach out to their communities. It is a fantastic party and an important part of the continuing struggle for LGBT equality”.
