Andrew Gilliver from The Lesbian & Gay Foundation comments “Questions around the issues related to coming out are still one of the biggest reasons people contact us. The prospect of coming out can be scary for many lesbian, gay or bisexual people of all ages who fear, rejection and isolation. Sadly, not everyone receives a supportive reaction and coming out can be a difficult thing for some people to understand or come to terms with. Lesbian, gay and bisexual people have to come out many times in their life, and will find themselves in situations where they feel the need or desire to disclose their sexual orientation.”

He goes onto say; “The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone, there are lesbian, gay and bisexual support organisations across the world who are there to offer a helping hand, a friendly ear, and who have vast experience of helping people come to terms with coming out.”

The Lesbian & Gay Foundation offer support and advice to anyone seeking support around the issue of coming out. For more information visit or call their helpline on 0845 3 30 30 30 or email
