New gay Mayor and Mayoress for Camden

Camden welcomed a new gay Mayor and Mayoress to the North London town as the pair endeavor to help keep music alive through the famous alternative hotspot and keep it known for what it does best, produce great artists.

Classed as a “rock‘n’roll” kind of mayor Jonathan Simpson, was officially announced the position on Wednesday, in a lively ceremony in the Town Hall. He also announced broadcaster Amy Lamé, who he met at a bar in Vauxhall 15 years ago, as his “glamour-puss” Mayoress.

He aims to help all youngsters trying to make it into the music industry and help Camden keep up its reputation as the music destination for the capital.

According to the Camden New Journal, Cllr Simpson said: “Music really can have an impact on the emotions of people, we have so many great venues – Kenwood, Koko, the Jazz Café, Dublin Castle. I want to encourage all young people to learn an instrument.”

They also reported that Ms Lamé was ecstatic about her new position: “I nearly fainted when Jonathan asked me to be his Mayoress. It will be an absolute honour. We’ve been friends for 15 years. All my early clubbing days were in Camden Town – most of all the Black Cap.”
