The history of Manchester’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community will be the focus of a special heritage trail next week – Thursday 25th June.
The ‘Out in the Past’ evening walking tour will share tales of Canal Street’s dark and closeted past and celebrate the changes throughout history that have led to the open LGBT lifestyle enjoyed today by so many Mancunians.
Jackie Crozier, festival manager of Manchester Pride, said: “Manchester’s one of the most ‘out and proud’ cities in the world – but it didn’t happen overnight. It has taken pioneering Mancunians more than 200 years to achieve the acceptance and an understanding of gay culture that the city has today. The ‘Out in the Past’ heritage trail records that struggle and celebrates the developments made.”
‘Midsummer Trail’ tour date: Thursday 25th June, 6.30pm at Manchester Visitor Information Centre
