LGBTory, the Conservative LGBT group, has welcomed today’s announcements by the Government Equalities Office on Civil Partnerships and moves towards possible marriage equality.
Under the plans, Civil Partnerships in religious institutions will be permitted under new legislation and the Government is proposing a consultation on whether full marriage equality is something to be advanced.
Matthew Sephton, Chairman of LGBTory commented:
“The possibility of having a Civil Partnership in a religious institution was announced by Prime Minister David Cameron back in June and we are happy that firm legislative proposals are now being put in place.”
“We also very much welcome the consultation on marriage equality. Although we would have preferred the process to move faster than looks likely from today’s Government statement, we will definitely be engaging with the consultation and taking a very active part in it as soon as it begins.”
