Gay Role model MCELDERRY shot to fame after winning the sixth series of THE X-FACTOR, and went on to win 2011’s hit TV show POPSTAR TO OPERASTAR. This led to his follow-up album ‘CLASSIC’, which shot to #2 in the UK album charts and was certified gold, following his previous top three album ‘WIDE AWAKE’. JOE has since had a top twenty Christmas album, won the 2012 Virgin Media Music Award for ‘Best Act of Reality TV Fame’ and has been listed as a role model by STONEWALL.

LEEDS PRIDE kicks off at midday with its VICTORIA STAGE, which will feature welcomes, introductions and key speeches. 2pm sees the LEEDS PRIDE PARADE set of down the headrow, working its way through the city to its final destination on LOWER BRIGATE.
In addition to music from JOE MCELDERRY, GARETH GATES, THE MEND and TWO SHOES – LEEDS PRIDE will feature music from the likes of BEARS ALOUD THE BON BONZ, KELLY WILDE, new boy band FTW, THE VIADUCT SHOWGIRLS, BROWNE SUGA, SORAYA VIVIAN, TANIA DOKO and JASON PRINCE. The event will be hosted by PEGGY WESSEX.

After the PARADE and STREET PARTY, Leeds club MISSION will host the official AFTER PARTY, featuring a P.A. from boy band THE MEND (BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT), who are also headliners on the day.
LEEDS PRIDE takes place on Sunday 5 August and is a free event and open to the public. The event has brought an estimated £1.5 million to the city’s economy and around 23,000 visitors.
