IKEA Canada to raise the Pride flag in recognition of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT)

Today, in recognition of IDAHOT, IKEA Canada will raise the Pride flag at each of its stores from coast to coast, symbolizing the organization’s commitment to an inclusive work environment which stands up for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

“At IKEA, we truly believe that equality is at the heart of human rights,” said Marsha Smith, President, IKEA Canada. “Every LGBT+ co-worker in this country has the right to be themselves when they come to work. With that in mind, we are proud to go all in on equality, creating a workplace where all co-workers feel welcomed, respected and appreciated for who they are.”

To further foster inclusivity, IKEA Canada announced a new partnership with Pride at Work Canada, a network organization whose vision is a nation where LGBT+ people can achieve their full potential at work. Pride at Work Canada fosters partnerships to empower employers and provide services to foster workplace cultures that recognizes LGBT+ employees as an important part of a diverse and effective workforce. This partnership is in addition to IKEA’s longstanding and ongoing partnership with Workplace Pride.

“We are pleased to welcome IKEA Canada to our network,” said Colin Druhan, Executive Director, Pride at Work Canada. “IKEA is recognized globally as a leading diversity employer and was identified as one of the top LGBTQ-friendly brands in a recent report from INTO and Brand Innovators. The best employers know that along with promoting diversity they must foster cultures of inclusion and we are excited for the opportunity to support IKEA moving forward.”
