The organisers of Manchester Pride are holding a health awareness day ‘Get FIT for Summer’ in Sackville Gardens on 19 June from 11am- 4pm.
This one day health awareness event will include activities such as a fitness measure test, healthy food tasting, lifestyle stands and games.
Manchester Pride’s ‘Get FIT for Summer’ event aims to achieve the following:
• Promote good living and wellbeing within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in Greater Manchester
• Combat prejudice and misconceptions within the community about a variety of issues
• Increase awareness of the long term effects of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs
• Encourage people to take short term action on a health issue, for example, taking an STI test, joining a stop smoking group, booking a cancer screening or picking up healthy living leaflets to read
Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride, said: “We’re extremely pleased to be holding ‘Get FIT for summer’ and helping in some way to promote good living and wellbeing within the LGBT community. I would encourage as many people as possible to join in with the various activities on offer, have fun and take action on any health issues they may have.”
