Entries for Manchester Pride’s 2011 Parade Now Open for Application

The Manchester Pride Parade 2011 will bring a ‘Best of British’ theme to the city centre on Saturday 27 August and entries are now open for application.

Taking part in the parade is a fantastic means of gaining exposure whilst helping raise money for local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups and HIV charities.

The ‘Best of British’ theme – selected from hundreds of entries from an online poll – scopes more than just Union Jacks and cups of tea.

Manchester Pride is encouraging entrants to think outside of the box. Britain is rich in its fashion (Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen), sport (Louis Hamilton, David Beckham, Amir Khan), music (The Beatles, The Spice Girls, Queen) and film (Charlie Chaplin, Harry Potter): there is a wealth of diversity to British culture so organisers are expecting great things from the 2011 entrants.

Last year saw entries from the likes of Manchester Airport and Coronation Street (Britain’s longest running soap) who took part as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

A spokesperson from Coronation Street, said: “The cast and crew had a brilliant time taking part in last year’s Manchester Pride Parade. We had a great reception from the crowd and it was a fantastic addition to our 50th Anniversary celebrations; we were really proud to be asked to be a part of it. As one of the ‘old timers’ we now can’t wait for the youngster that is Pride’s 21st birthday – we have no doubt it will be a fantastic celebration”.

Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride, said: “Having just celebrated the Royal Wedding, it’s clear to see that British culture and its diversity is something that brings us all together as a country, in different ways. This is a fantastic theme and I look forward to this year’s entries – all coming together to help raise large amounts of money for local charities and HIV causes.”
